Siri on HomePod activates anytime a Farxiga commercial is on the television

It took a few days before I realized what was going on but anytime a Farxiga (drug) commercial plays on the television, Siri on my living room HomePod responds to it. It replies with something like, "I don't know, but if you ask again from your iPhone I can give you more information".

So much for privacy APPLE!

It only happens with that one commercial.

There are no words in the commercial that sound anything like Siri or Hey Siri, so there is some other trigger.

Also, if a friend says Hey Siri to the same HomePod, it doesn't recognize his voice and won't execute the request.

I'm convinced despite Apples claim to privacy commitments, there's some sort of kick back going on here.

I want to turn it off, but don't know where to do it.

Anyone else have this occureance? How do I fix this?

You can always ask Siri to “stop listening” to disable hey siri, but then of course you can’t use “hey Siri”. As to that commercial, I have a tv left on the American news channel all day long that has all these pharmaceutical commercials, including that one and it hasn’t happened to mine. Not to say that the tv never summons Siri, it does. Our privacy went out the window a long time ago. The only way to not have anything you do or say in your home put at risk is to have no smart devices or wifi.

It’s happening on mine now. It says ok I’ll cancel your alarm. I don’t want my wake up alarms cancelled! It’s only happening on my non smart tv. I don’t know what Apple can do to fix it. The fault is with this commercial. omg it just cancelled all my alarms!

You can try submitting feedback to Apple. If enough of us do so they might try to find a way to fix it, Feedback - HomePod - Apple.

It seems it’s my OG HomePod doing this. My other tv is in a room with on OG HomePod that has hey siri disabled and 2 HomePod 2nd Gens. I submitted feedback, it helps if you do as well. Thanks.

Listen more carefully to the Farxiga commercial and look at the disclaimer text at the bottom of the screen, and you’ll hear (and see) that after the initial brand hook they talk about “Serious side effects”. The “seri” in “serious” is what’s activating Siri.

It only happens to me on the Farxiga commercial, but other Pharma commercials also use the phrase “serious side effects” so it’s not surprising...it may be that the Farxiga voice talent timbre is closer to mine, and hence activates Siri more readily than other ads…

I suggest muting that (or all) commercial(s), when watching TV, or lobbying all pharma companies to use a synonym for “serious”…or maybe Apple will provide HomePod code to exclude/ignore the phrase “serious side effects”…!?🤷
