iPod Classic 160 GB photos

So I have an iPod Classic from 2007 that is running perfectly but I haven't used in over 10-15 years. I now synched it with my new Mac Studio computer. The iPod used to be synched to an old no longer available computer (via iTunes!). Obviously the music got replaced with the new library on the Mac Studio, which is in essence the same library on the iPod only updated.

Not so with photos: the photos on the iPod are no longer in my computer library and they might be in an external HD stored and archived away.

Question is: is there a way to extract and transfer the photos on the iPod to the Mac Studio without losing them? If I synch with the Mac Studio, the photos will be replaced with the new Photo library which doesn't contain the old photos.
