On a MacBook, I drop an audio clip on to the timeline.
About 3 seconds into the video, the audio clip goes silent for 1-2 seconds, then resumes. Any ideas why? Any suggestions?

If the problem persists with a different clip, try inserting the problem clip into a new project.
Also, you can try deleting preferences. To delete preferences open iMovie while holding down the Option and Command keys and selecting to delete preferences in the box that appears. iMovie will open in a new blank library. Re-open your original library to get back to your projects.

Could be that the muting is caused by a defective clip. To rule out a clip-related issue, try inserting a different clip into the timeline and see if the problem persists there.
