How do I fix high latency issue when using Logic Pro on my new MacBook Air?

I've seen many solutions that have been posted to threads about using things like low latency mode etc. However, nothing is seeming to resolve the issue as I am still clocking up to 250ms when recording. This happens no matter if I a clean slate of a project or I am running many plugins. I got the M2 Mac book air just over a year ago (now annoyingly out of warranty) and recently installed logic and I this issue came about a few weeks ago. I have a Yamaha electronic keyboard that I use for MIDI and it is unplayable with logic.

Has anyone had this sudden issue before and are there any common causes for it?

Latency, a common challenge in digital audio production, necessitates understanding its origins to effectively manage it. Key contributors to latency include:
  • I/O Buffer Size: Lowering this setting results in reduced latency but demands more processing power from your CPU.
  • Sample Rate: Increasing the sample rate can decrease latency, again requiring more CPU resources.
  • Plugins and Processing: Every plugin introduces some delay, with certain types like spectral processors, analog emulators, and pitch-correction tools often causing more significant latency.
  • Oversampling: This technique inherently adds to the overall latency.
  • Plugin Latency Compensation: When active (and it should be), this feature sums the latency of all plugins in your project to ensure timing accuracy.
  • Audio Interface Latency: The inherent latency can vary between different sound cards or audio devices.
  • Flex Time: In some cases, using Flex Time on audio tracks can introduce latency.
  • Low Latency Mode (Logic Pro): This recording feature temporarily bypasses certain plugins to minimize latency during input. Be sure to turn it off for playback to hear your full mix.
  • Track Freezing: Freezing tracks with many latency-heavy plugins can significantly reduce the processing load and associated latency.

Side Note: I was using SSL 360 for about a year and this application made my computer act very weird. I uninstalled it and now things are smooth as butter. Consider using Logic Pro with no other applications running.
