How do I stop Google from opening instead of Safari on iPhone SE?

On my iPhone SE, I must have touched a wrong button when attempting to open Safari, and Google opened. I then couldn't get back to Safari, even when I touched the Safari icon, google opened. Turned the phone off and back on a couple of times and the same thing happened, EVEN THOUGH Safari is still selected as the default browser in Settings. Please help.

Google is many things but it is not a browser. Can you explain further? Describe the page that opens or post a screenshot.

Do you mean you're going to the Google search page? You can certainly change your default search engine in Settings>Apps>Safari>Search Engine. Note that there is no such thing as a "Safari" search engine. Apple doesn't have such a thing. Lots of people recommend DuckDuckGo.

Thanks for your reply. I do realise that Safari is a browser and not a search engine. AND, I confess the problem was the result of my own confusion and is now resolved. Thanks.
