Which is better: USB drive or SD card reader for iPhone?

I'm looking for recommendations on whether to use a USB drive or SD card reader for external photo storage on my iPhone 15 pro max while I do not have access to iCloud or a computer. What are the pros and cons of each? Which is better for travel? Any suggestions?

A proper SSD is more robust than a flash SD card.

BTW just yesterday I got 1TB OWC Envoy Pro mini USB-C&A drive and it seems to be very nice -- it uses SLC tech which is the fastest, most durable, and least error-prone SSD type (TLC would also be OK but I'd stay away from QLC).
