Ringtones and alarms are not playing on airpods

When I connect my airpod pros, most sounds play over them as expected. However, ringtones do not play over them, they only play over the iPhone speaker. Other sounds like Text Tone, New Voicemail, etc do play over the airpods.

Clock app alarms and timers also do not play over the airpods.

Is this normal behaviour? It's kind of disappointing - I'd like to hear ringtones and alarms and timers over the airpods.
