How do I reset my iPhone to resolve BLACKPEARL_SPARROW analytic logs?

I also have ‘BLACKPEARL_SPARROW’ all over my analytics data on my iPhone! I’m unsure for how long but for at least a few weeks (both before and after updating to 18.5) a lot of logs indicating “unauthorized drawing” and other issues in effectively every app on my phone. Also part of a “triald” library. Doesn’t seem to be on my MacBook- but I isolated them from each other once I realized. Also I definitely DIDN’T have it toggled to have my analytics sent to Apple before all this (though I’ve added it now!)

I’m not overly techy or bothered by analyzing my analytics, and only looked at these because I noticed and looked into it after some issues with some of the prompts for Face ID being excessive, or my passcode just getting turned off occasionally. I’ve had another older device with same problem- and a factory reset on the phone does nothing to clear it.

yeah, initially I thought the ‘experiment id’ of ‘BLACKPEARL_SPARROW’ may be an Apple thing but I have doubts considering it seems to be fighting with iOS itself and isn’t exactly standard naming.

have you also had any other issues other than the logs? I googled this a couple weeks ago and nothing! You’re the first I see mention it!!

Don't be too concerned about Google searches giving you wrong information. Here are some of those classic failures in the Google AI answers given.

  • Suggesting gasoline can be used in some home cooking recipes
  • To help cheese stick to pizza, it was recommended to mix 1/8 cup of Elmer's glue with the sauce.
  • Recommendation to eat at least 1 small rock per day for vitamins and minerals.
  • How about the benefits of nuclear war being increased human diversity and solving the immigration problem. The source was clearly a joke, but Google AI regurgitated it as being factual.

I could go on, but I think you get the idea.

Have you noticed specific applications that have this? For example, mine only appear on communication related tools such as Slack, CHATgpt, Gmail, etc. quite concerning yes, probably just a funny engineer, but would like some formal documentation from Apple on this.

Apple isn't here and won't see your request for any documentation. This is a user to user only forum. I wouldn't expect Apple to provide any documentation about the words in analytics. They're not meant for user interpretation at all. And trying to read analytics, is futile and will only serve to confuse you.

Like the engineers to post something.

That's not going to happen.

Think they do monitor.

You are incorrect.

There is preference in profile for contacting. Logs must mean something if they can decipher at Apple, or bad actors.

Hopefully others will share here.

Stop poking around in the analytics. They are not human readable.

And what is the problem? If you are looking for standard naming conventions, you surely will not find them in the iPhone Analytics. Engineers are quite funny people and users were also convinced that they had a hacker on their devices when they saw the phrase "Goodnight Gracie". Turns out they logged that message when a connection to a server was closed in reference to a George Burns schtick.

If you are looking to solve a problem using Analytics, you WILL fail. There are many other words used that you may find concerning, such as Stingray, Pegasus.Framework, Unauthorized, Panic, and also the process triald. For your concern about BLACKPEARL_SPARROW, also note that it is part of MacOS and you can find it easily in your Library.

You now know BLACKPEARL_SPARROW is an Apple thing and found on all devices. Are you concerned about the same thing?

You can certainly send analytics data to Apple, but they are anonymized and you will not get any communication back about the logs you send. If you open a Support Ticket with Apple Support, it is possible that an Engineer will request a log where they use specialized software to decode the logs pertaining to an issue that was reported. No, they will not open a Support Ticket asking for clarification on the logs you see as they serve absolutely no purpose to you.
