Desktop computer doesn’t acknowledge my phone

I want to download pics from my new iphone 16plus to my desktop (for later transferring to a thumbdrive). Have attempted this on a variety of computers but cannot get any of them to acknowledge my phone’s existence. I did this regularly with my old phone, don’t understand what setting I am missing on the new one. Any help would be appreciated!
