How do I unblock a MacBook account after multiple failed password attempts?

Hi, I haven't used my laptop for a long time and forgot my password, after many attempts to enter the password my account was blocked. I tried to reset the passwords through my iPhone, but now the laptop does not allow me to enter even a new password. there are no additional keys like *forgot password*. Please help me what should I do?

When a Mac account gets locked after too many incorrect password attempts, macOS goes into a bit of a security lockdown mode, especially if it's tied to an iCloud account with FileVault or Activation Lock enabled.

Start by powering down the Mac, and then, boot it back up. At the login screen, make sure it’s connected to the internet. Look for the Wi-Fi icon in the upper-right corner and connect to a known network.

If that doesn't work, power down the Mac, and then, boot it back up in Safe mode. Use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support, then try logging in with the new password you reset from your iPhone.

If Safe Mode doesn't help, try resetting the password via Recovery:

  1. Shut down the Mac.
  2. To enter Recovery Mode is different between an Intel vs. M-series Mac. For Intel: Power it on and immediately hold Command + R to enter macOS Recovery. Then go to Utilities > Terminal. In Terminal, type resetpassword (all one word) and hit Return.
  3. For the M-series: Use macOS Recovery on a Mac with Apple silicon
  4. Follow the on-screen steps to reset your account password.

If none of the above helps, then your Mac is, most likely, is Activation Locked. You’ll need to enter the Apple Account credentials originally used to set it up. If you changed your Apple Account password from your iPhone, give it some time to propagate across devices — this sometimes takes a few hours.

If none of these work, your best bet may be to contact Apple Support with proof of purchase. They can help unlock the device if you’re the rightful owner.
