Can I use a laptop as a monitor for another device?

This may be a stupid question but I'll brazen it out nonetheless, and ask the community! Is there such a thing as a laptop monitor (the equivalent of say, an Apple LED Cinema Display but portable. The macmini is small enough to travel with, and ideally it would be great if there was a way to connect it to a laptop "display". Maybe some techno savvy poster figured it out here and has the answer?

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by a "Laptop monitor" as opposed to any other monitor. There are lots of portable monitors available. I recently bought one on Amazon to use with my MBP when I work from home. It was less than $100, came with a protective cover and the required cables. I plug it into my MBP with the USB-C cable and it gets power from that.

Note that this is a very low-end one as I only use it for things like spreadsheets, email, and other basic work stuff. I'm sure there are ones that are a lot better. I just didn't feel like spending more.

A laptop or iPad is an exceptional tool for travel purposes and mobility.

The Mac mini will tether you to a location that can provide ac power. In addition to the mini you'll have to drag along the monitor, a keyboard, a mouse or trackpad and the power cord.

Are you certain this is the direction you want to go?

Thanks for your reply. I meant to say portable, not laptop. Sorry. I was surpriised to find there are quite a few portable screens available. I just need to find one that iwill connet to apple mac mini to save me buying a laptop or iPad for travel purposes.

I found the one I bought on Amazon by searching for "portable monitors for macs." Here's a link to the one I got if it helps:

There were lots, many of them more expensive. This one plugs into the USB-C port on my MBP with an included cable. It also came with an HDMI cable. There was no real set-up involved. No software was required.

If you already have a Mac Mini and are looking to travel with it, this is a viable option. But, if you're considering buying a computer and you want one that will work both at home and away, I'd go with something from Apple's portable lines. The MacBook Airs are very light and probably quite sufficient for most people. I have a MacBook Pro that I absolutely love. I haven't bought a desktop computer in at least 20 years.
